PRIYANKA LAHIRI
Artist (Oil Based Medium)
My artistic practice explores the enduring structures of power, suppression, and human desire that continue to shape society across time. Through figurative oil paintings, I attempt to capture the emotional tensions of contemporary life — vulnerability, resilience, longing, and quiet moments of hope — within spaces that feel both personal and universal.
Working in oil on canvas, I embrace the medium’s depth, discipline, and slowness. Its layered richness allows me to build emotional atmosphere and portray not only outward appearances, but also the inner psychological lives of my subjects. My figures are not fixed symbols; they are timeless human presences shaped by memory, identity, tradition, and the complexities of modern existence.
While rooted in a classical and naturalistic approach, my work speaks to contemporary realities grounded in India yet connected to wider human experience. After more than twenty years of practice, I remain deeply engaged with the possibilities of paint and strive to create works that resonate beyond the moment — paintings that linger in the viewer’s mind long after they leave the space.
